It's hard to take the Academy Awards seriously when they do things like give
Titanic the trophy for Best Picture and snub Elliott Smith in favor of Celine Dion. So imagine my excitement last night when they managed not to screw it up and awarded Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová the Oscar for Best Original Song. And then, when Markéta was cut off by the orchestra before she could even say "thank you," they managed not to screw it up
again when they let her come back out for a second chance to give her acceptance speech. It was the
best moment of the night. Way to go, Academy. And I really mean it this time.
