adventures with blueberries

A few weeks ago, on a cool, cloudy Saturday morning, we went blueberry picking at Restoration Oaks Ranch in Gaviota.

Fifteen dollars gets you a full bucket (we filled two) and all the blueberries you can eat while you pick.

What to do with all of those blueberries? Why, turn them into sugary, carbo-loaded treats, of course.

I made a batch of blueberry jam so we could have a little piece of the central coast to take with us when we move next month. It was my first time canning anything, so hopefully we won't die of botulism when we crack open one of these jars next year.

And then I whipped up some blueberry muffins, the perfect on-the-go breakfast during the work week. I recommend this recipe, which results in muffins that are perfectly light and fluffy. So good right out of the oven.

And here we have blueberry pancakes, the perfect breakfast to make at home on the weekend.

What's your favorite thing to do with fresh blueberries?

I just eat them plain, boring but effective.

Also ebelskivers.

And keep them in the freezer for quick yummy treats on hot days.

Blueberry milkshakes.
To die for. I get one EVERYtime we go to Red Robin.

Also, blueberry lemon pound cake.

sigh, clearly i could go on. But I think that your use in the jam was magnificent. I wish we lived closer so that I could come taste it :)

Lauren, you're making me drool! And I can't believe you can get a whole bucket for $15. Sounds like heaven! I just made some blueberry cookies that were pretty yummy. Other than that I just love munching on them plain or putting them on cereal. . . or ice cream:)
Your jam looks great!

Here's the link for the cookies if you want to try them. The lemon rind makes them tasty!
