It's been a while...

Our summer was busy and a little bit weird. Mostly consisted of me shuttered indoors hunched over a keyboard trying to meet work deadlines. We possibly heard a UFO while staying at my parents' house and went out looking for it but the search was not fruitful (at least as the memory wipe would have us believe). Then we went back to Lexington so TJ could start his second year of school and moved to a new and improved apartment.

I can't wait until next week: on Thursday is the third season premiere of Fringe, and on Sunday is the kick-off of Amazing Race 17 and the MTV premiere of 9500 Liberty. The latter is a documentary of what went down in my home county in northern VA a couple of years ago when the Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance requiring police to check the immigration status of people they had "probable cause" to suspect of being undocumented. Huge culture war ensued. Droves of immigrants left the county, which generally made existing economic woes even worse. The ordinance was overturned after a few months. Take heed, Arizona.

For those that may not have cable access but want to find out more, the creators of 9500 Liberty have a Web site and a channel on YouTube, where the project originally started and which contains dozens of clips (some of which made it into the feature-length documentary).

Have a nice weekend, all, and talk to you again in about another four months, probably.
