oreos from scratch

An unusual thing about TJ is his ability to remain completely unmoved in the presence of delicious sugary treats. He just doesn't seem to respond to cakes, chocolates, pies, cookies, etc. the way the rest of us do—except when it comes to Oreos. For some reason, Oreos are the only sweet things he will actively seek out on his own.

So I thought I'd try to make some homemade Oreos for Halloween. I've seen this recipe floating around on various blogs, and the response to it seemed to be good, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

Though it's probably difficult to duplicate the exact taste and texture of Oreos from the store, the homemade version comes pretty close—crisp, fresh, and minus all of the artifical ingredients.

TJ gives it two thumbs up.

one of my clearest memories of TJ is watching him eat a whole sleeve of oreo and dipping each and every single one of them so far into the milk that both his pointer finger and thumb were completely submersed.

I am going to try these for sure! Maybe my next round of the dessert contests...

And anything TJ gives two thumbs up surely must be worthy.

Mmmm. These look a lot easier to make than I would've thought. Thanks for the recipe--maybe I'll try them out for the holiday season. =]

Where did TJ find this sugar cure? I could use that.
